Digital Aerial Photography

Beginning in 2001, NCTCOG facilitated the purchase of high-quality, color, digital aerial photography (orthos) for North Central Texas as a cost-sharing objective for local governments. The initial project covered 11 counties and was contracted by Vargis. In 2003, Pixxures and Dallas Aerials were contracted to produce aerial photography for the entire 16-county NCTCOG region plus an area served by the Sherman-Denison Metropolitan Planning Organization. Bohannan-Huston was contracted to produce aerial photography in 2005, 2007, and for 2009. Sanborn was contracted for the 2011 project. All aerial photography is flown in January, February, and March.

Due to the success of the project and subsequent realized savings, a majority of the local governments in North Central Texas purchase their aerial photography through NCTCOG's cooperative program. Participating agencies have an average savings of 75% compared to purchasing aerial imagery themselves. Images are available to participating agencies in Tiff (.tif) and Mr. Sid (.sid) format in either six-inch or one-foot resolution. Aerial imagery may be viewed, printed, and purchased in digital format at
